Switching to a 9070XT
The last desktop upgrade i had did not include a GPU so i used the GTX1080 from the old prebuild.
Nvidia supposedly dropped support for 10 series and one of the fans had louder noises than before so why not upgrade before the price hikes of 2026.
I liked the idea of not getting a 12GB card and not supporting the open but actually closed drivers.
Nvidia graphics are a pain in the fucking ass and sure you might argue better performance or CUDA compatibility or whatever the fuck you want but god the drivers keep getting worse and worse.
I use a dual monitor setup(4k and 1440x900), a year ago the TTY stopped working when i had both plugged in but months ago that was fixed but the pixels that werent on the smaller display werent just black as someone would expect, they were random.
I am enjoying ray tracing kinda, being able to run cyberpunk at 4k ultra, being able to click on the sleep button knowing the next time i click on the power button it will wake up without graphical artifacts. But GOD DAMN does hw encoding not work in the nice way nvenc worked, sometimes its green lines at the bottom, sometimes its one eye becoming random pixels in vr and sometimes its just crashing in vr.
In short, we deserve better. For the one time you need a transcription of a long video to find the words you said months ago without scrubbing through you dont want to mess around for hours with which torch version runs with your card.
